Like other houses of the monastery, our house celebrates a few special events through-out the year.We have the prize distribution ceremony, Tibetan New Year Ceremony, Offering to Mahakala the guardian deity of the house, Rigchung, Rigchen (Debate function), annual prosperity ritual, and appointment ceremony of new discipliner of the house. Amongs these the appointment of new discipliner, start of debate session and prize distribution ceremony were held on the 8th day of the 3rd month of lunar calendar, which is considered as the special day of the Mahakala the protector deity of the house.
The Mahakala ritual ceremony starts in the full traditional way with the chanting of the hymn of praise lead by chanting master. While the chanting is in its high note, the new discipliner enters the assembly hall and takes the charge of the discipline of the house. According to a century old tradition, the new discipliner is handed over the charter of the house and the register of the house, which contains a complete list of the monks who sought admission to the house. After that, the newly appointed discipliner receives the blessings from the image of His Holiness by offering a scarf to it.
In the afternoon, the grand Tshog offering prayer of Mahakala takes place. This is followed by the prize distribution function. Our most respected masters Ven. Geshe Thupten Rinchen and Ven. Lobsang Palden give away the prizes to the monk students for their excellent results both in Dhatsang and House examinations.lastly they give advice on how to practice rules of monastic and also on studies. This year most of the monastic writing exams prizes went to our house monks. The day ends with the dedication of merits.
